Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK (In-Person Only)

When I Dare To Be Powerful international conference will bring filmmakers, artists, writers and activists, together with conceptual thinkers and cultural theorists in order to answer pressing questions relating to voice as an agent of change. Centred on voice as a lens through which we conceive of a social alterity that undermines current ideological dominance, we invite proposals that will explore coming to voice as an act of resistance. This one-day conference will follow a series of online talks, interviews, and discussions leading up to the event. It responds to and is informed by a range of research questions including colonialism, material matter, representation using filmic practice, voice as a tool for change and exploration of human and nonhuman relationships. Papers, podcasts and online talks relating to the conference, can be accessed via this website

This conference is made possible by generous funding and support provided by Midlands3/4Cities, New Art Exchange, the Postcolonial Studies Centre and Bonington Gallery.
